Finally, After 108 Years

November 5, 2016 --

LPR congratulates the Chicago Cubs on their World Series victory over the valiant Cleveland Indians, their first such victory since 1908, when the Cubs’ infield included the famous double-play combo of Tinker to Evers to Chance.

Leading four games to one, going into the sixth game, the Indians were following the pattern of the last Cleveland team to win the World Series, in 1948. That team, however, defeated the Boston Braves in game six.

This time, the Cubs, down three games to one, went on to take three straight from the Indians, including the sixth and seventh games on the road, winning the seventh game 8-7 in ten innings, allowing for a 17- minute rain delay at the end.

Considering that the final game ended in the very early hours of November 3, and was played close to Lake Erie, it’s a wonder that the game was not delayed by snow.

The 1908 World Series was won by the Cubs in five games, over the Detroit Tigers, whose players included Ty Cobb. That series began on October 10 and ended on October 14.

LPR believes it will take more than another 108 years for Major League Baseball to restore the World Series to its proper place in the autumn calendar.
