Assorted Observations
(in no particular order)

MAY 12, 2009 --

The record is likely to show that LPR has been ahead of media and Washington on the threats to the economy from gas prices and credit card practices. And the record is also likely to show that LPR has been ahead of radcons (radio conservatives) like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Mark Levin in expressing dismay with the political ineptitude of the Republican party.

Herewith few more LPR observations.

Senator Arlen Specter

Expect him to be ex-Spectered next election,. Unless, of course, LPR cannot distinguish the canny from the bizarre. For the senator to suggest that Jack Kemp might be alive today but for the Republicans could indicate his willingness to get with the Democratic program. But the Dems might have decided not to maintain Specter’s seniority because they recognize some difficulty with him.

Medicar

Mark (will you please stop screaming?) Levin wonders if the next development in conjugal bliss will be three-party marriages. This, as LPR sees it, is nonsense. On the other hand – marriages between man (or woman) and car? Quite a different matter. Is there any doubt that there are men (and women) who indeed love their autos? Is there any doubt that some men (and women) bond with their autos? Is there any doubt that some men humanize as well as simonize.

Now imagine the impact on the owner of a car if it becomes too costly to repair and must be euthenautoized? If marriage of man (or woman) and auto is legalized, the cost of repair can be covered by Medicar, saving the life of the car, and maintaining those bonds
of automony (automony – not to be confused with autonomy).

The Free Market

You gotta be kidding. Is there a free market when the Fed tinkers with interest rates to affect stock prices? Is there a free market when companies get money from the taxpayers because they – the companies — are “too big to fail?” Can there ever be a free market when government officials involve themselves in “private enterprise?” If we had a free market, would credit card interest rates have reached 30% -- would gas prices have put a spike in the economy?

Too Small to Succeed

Most of us?

The Unit (CBS television program)

In a recent episode a Unit renegade turned out actually to be a Unit member on undercover assignment. Thing is, this soldier, undercover, murdered three people in that episode. LPR wonders how many episodes until the soldier and his colonel are convicted of murder.

Schadenfreude

LPR wonders if the Democrats, when they join forces with Europeans against Washington, are just acting to head off European schadenfreude aimed at us.
