MAY 14, 2006
--
In July 2003,
New York City hosted the world archery championships.
The opening rounds were held in Van Cortlandt Park in The Bronx and the closing
rounds were held in Manhattan -- in Central Park, in the North Meadow. The
North Meadow got a lot of trodding that July 2003 weekend.
Yet, by afternoon on the Monday after the
archery tournament, the North Meadow showed little indication that it has been
heavily walked on the days before.
The Broadway Show League, due to renovation of the Heckscher fields,
began the 2006 season at North Meadow fields. May 25 -- the third Thursday of
this season, games are planned for Central
Parks Great Lawn.
The North Meadow fields are more
expansive than the Heckscher fields. That, plus the North Meadow ban on dogs,
even one, like Shana, who is more personality than canine-ality, limited LPR's
ability to get BSL photos that day.

through the fence …

But, in addition
to a photo of Shana wondering why she has to stay on
the other side of the fence, and a photo showing one of the North Meadow hard
rock seating areas, LPR did get a photo of a left fielder chasing a ball heading
its way.

After the first

Singer, The Producers and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. For more on the
