Broadway Show League

JULY 3, 2005 --

The Broadway Show League had its Old Timer's Day and All Star games June 30, in Central Park.

In the Old Timer's game, Tony LoBianco's East Siders defeated the West Side team, 7 to 3. LPR chatted briefly with Mr.
LoBianco and learned that he started playing in the BSL in 1959, and was on eight championship teams, winning three most valuable player trophies.

Mr. LoBianco will be appearing in his one- man show, "Fiorello" -- based on the life of New York City Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia -- at the Helen Hayes Theater, in Nyack, N.Y., October 14, 15 and 16.

Catching for Mr. LoBianco was John Perkins who played in Broadway community pick-up softball games before
the league was established.

Early teams Mr. Perkins played for included "Wish You Were Here" and "Bells Are Ringing." Mr. Perkins told
LPR that he played against "My Fair Lady" -- which, next season, marks its golden anniversary.
