Bloomberg After Bush?

JUNE 19, 2006 --

Having months ago raised the possibility, LPR was interested to read of speculation, last week, in The New York Sun that Mayor Bloomberg might run for president as a third party candidate (using his own money for the campaign).

Bloomberg the candidate would likely be invited to the campaign debates. (To deny him access would be futile, considering the network time he could purchase.)

True, the mayor might be asked if he
intends to nationalize parking fines to New York City levels. Opposition could be defused with a campaign song, perhaps called: "Blooming with Bloomberg."

(Some hypothetical lyrics: When Mike is president, every USA burg will bloom. When Mike is president, the economy will zoom. Mike as president will seal
every terrorist's doom.

Above all, with Mike as president Republicans and Democrats will fume.)
Mr. Bloomberg, in private life, has been, basically, an extraordinary salesman, and what is a successful politician but a salesman by a different name.

In any event, presidential speculation, LPR believes, would tend to keep the mayor a rather healthy political "duck" -- to become "lame" rather later, than
sooner -- and not at all if he does make that White House run.
