AUGUST
21, 2004 --
The sign not
far from the Democratic National Convention, in Boston, last month,
and the sign now visible on a Manhattan building a quarter mile
from
the Republican gathering in New York City underscore that this seems to be
the presidential campaign of the two fears.

Seventh Avenue and 26th Street.

The Democratic candidate
is seen as
"Scary." And the Republican candidate must be defeated to "Save
America.

Madison Square Garden now has a sign at the northwest part of the arena announcing
the 2004 Republican National Convention in New York. Previously this
spot had a rather different sign, advertising a current movie, but perhaps
the nouns on that sign are seen by some, today, as applicable to Republicans
and Democrats -- who might seem alien to us with their
reckless disregard to appear as predators to the unconnected and, thereby,
disrespected by the political insiders--Democrats and Republicans alike.

This
is the new sign that now hangs in place of the "Alien
vs. Predator" sign on Madison Square Garden.

As the days to
the Republican National Convention wind down, United for Peace
and Justice contginues to press for a Central Park rally, after
the August 29 march past the Garden. Demonstrators are advised
to watch where they walk, lest they trip into a pothole. (LPR now
wonders if these are potholes neglected by City Hall, or savvy
placement of traps to contain use of vehicles and personnel for
civil disobedience.)

the future?

LPR
discovered this pothole on Riverside Drive, near Grant's
Tomb.
|
Last week, LPR photographed some softball fields at the Great Lawn, the site
where UFPJ wants its post-march rally, to be rebuffed by City Hall. On Friday,
LPR called the UFPJ office to inquire why it has not pointed out in press releases
-- to LPR's knowledge -- that there are softball
fields on the Great Lawn which, thereby, is less pristine than the City would
suggest.

The volunteer
at the other end haughtified:
that New Yorkers know about the softball fields on the Great Lawn.
Okay, UFPJ, do you PR your way -- fear factor over reality factor, just like
the Republicans and Democrats.

LPR took the
photos of Seventh Avenue, the entrance to Madison Squaree Garden,
and the NYPD Command Post, not to show to GOP delegates but to
remember the area the days that LPR and most everyone else but
the GOP and credentialed few are the only souls permitted to walk
hereabouts.

|
No way will LPR
get within blocks of
the Garden, August 30 to September 2, when the convention concludes its scripted
proceedings with the acceptance speech telling us that Mr. Bush is ready to prove
to the country how his re-election will save the country from the "scary" Democrat.
(With "Real Deal" Kerry suing Mr. Bush for hate speech? Isn't "real
deal" more appropriate to a Las Vegas card dealer?)
