Thomas P. "Tip" O'Neill Jr., (D. Mass.),  Speaker of the House from 1977 to 1987, is credited with this insight:  "all politics is local."   

LPR has a hunch that the speaker's observation is now outdated, succeeded by:  "all politics is personal."
