Court Bars Clinton and Cruz Candidacies

April 5, 2016 --

A federal court nullified the presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton and Ted Cruz, today.

The court, noting that the 22nd amendment to the Constitution bars a “person” from being elected president more than two times, ruled that the spouse of a president is comes under the term “person.” The court pointed out that President Bill Clinton supported its interpretation of the 22nd amendment when he stated that with his wife Hillary Clinton, the nation gets two presidents “for the price of one.”

In the Cruz case, the court held that under Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution, to be eligible for the presidency, a person must be a natural born citizen.

The court interpreted “natural born” to refer to persons born in the United States. Cruz, of course, was born in Canada, which, the court added, has yet to become part of the United States.
