NOVEMBER
13, 2005 --
Last
week, appearing before a Senate committee, oil industry executives
faced some harsh words about gas prices -- and, LPR has noticed
that gas prices
continue to get lower.
In Torrington, Connecticut, prices at a Mobil station were nine cents lower
than
the preceding week. At a Torrington Citgo, regular was at $2.17.9.
Alas in New York City, gas prices are forty cents a gallon higher than in Torrington.
It seems, however, that we are past the days of gas-price gouging, at least
for now.
LPR would like to see a congressional committee ask bank executives to explain
credit card interest rates that are close to 30 percent. For LPR neither gas
price gouging nor onerous credit card interest rates serve the common good.
In a free society, when officials ignores strains placed on voters, voters
look
elsewhere -- and now, we see, even to write-in candidates.
