The bottom of the January 23 Times front page included this item:

"It's New York, New York"

"Two of the state's NFL teams, the Bills... and the Giants won to advance in the playoffs."

Where do the Bills play their home games: in the Empire State or in the Garden State? In the Empire State, of course.

Where do the Giants play their home games: in the Garden State or in the Empire State? In the Garden State, of course.

Do Garden State and Empire State refer to the same state in the Union? No. New York is the Empire State and New Jersey is the Garden State,

Consequently, the Bills are the only NFL team in New York state.

The reference to "Two of the state's NFL teams..." obviously is meant to suggest that New York state has a third team in the NFL -- to wit, the Jets. The Jets, however, also play their home games in the State of New Jersey.

Again, the Buffalo Bills are the State of New York's only NFL team.

There is a state with three NFL teams: California. The Los Angeles Chargers; the Los Angeles Rams, and the San Francisco 49ers. Even Ohio has more NFL teams than New York: the Cleveland Browns (how soon will that name be changed) and the Cincinnati Bengals (what does a Bengal have to do with Cincinnati?)

When does Alaska get a team in the NFL ?-- the UCONNs, of course.
