First Smokers -- Next Autos?

Standing outside Yankee Stadium, one can hear the public address system caution that smoking is not permitted in the ballpark. (As yet, there is no ban on smoking outside the Stadium). Clyde Haberman signaled in his New York Times column of April 30 that autos may be next on the banned list in NYC. Mr. Haberman commented that New York City is "a city ill-suited for the internal combustion engine." A phrase that does not dispel LPR's sense that for certain city officials, urban paradise would be a place barren of cars, with huge buses and film and tv location vehicles taking up all the curb space. How would the city make up the lost revenue in parking fines? Jay-walking violations bureau -- obviously.

potholes like this appear in Manhattan, barriers are set up around the perimeter. No barrier was visible when LPR saw this gaping maw waiting for an axle to mangle. Perhaps the anti-auto crowd adds to its glee making certain that policemen are not much in evidence in time of midtown rush-hour snarls. Clearly, there are important NYC people who hold little sympathy for the ordinary motorist.
