SEPTEMBER
25, 2005 --
Notwithstanding
at least one dire prediction, gas prices continued on the downside
as indicated by this Citgo Station in New Milford where, September
22, prices were down more than 20 cents compared to the Torrington,
Connecticut Citgo Station as shown last week on LPR.
Still, AOL News gave us a warning from Peter Beutel that Hurricane Rita could
send prices to $4.00, maybe even $5.00 a gallon. Mr. Beutel was described to
be an "oil industry analyst."
LPR wonders if "oil industry analyst" is just someone the media will
quote. Last week on this site, it was predicted that prices would decline to
about $2.50.
Seems more reasonable than Mr. Beutel's prediction which can only put drivers
to unease -- whether or not it reflects oil industry wishful thinking.
Later reports noted that Hurricane Rita was weakening.

It was not clear from the reports if the news caused grumbling among "oil
industry analysts." Indeed, the price of oil dropped on word that Rita would
not damage refineries as much as feared (thereby not providing an excuse for
another price spike?)
