Gaza and Ukraine:
Mirror Images of Each Other

September 1, 2014 --

The Obama Administration actively pressed for ceasefires between Hamas and Israel in the recent fighting in Gaza. LPR sees no sign that the Obama Administration is interested in a Ukraine ceasefire.

The Obama Administration, throughout the Gaza fighting, expressed concern about civilian casualties -- and, indeed, charging Israel with killing children in a UN facility in Gaza, accused the the Jewish State of "disgraceful" conduct. LPR is unaware of any concern from the Obama administration about civilian casualties in the southeast area of Ukraine.

The foregoing suggests a mirror image conclusion to the Obama Administration's view of the fighting in Gaza and Ukraine: President Obama did not want to see Israel defeat Hamas; he very much would like Kiev to defeat the pro-Russian forces in Ukraine's southeast.

What are the aims of the pro-Russian forces in Ukraine's southeast? LPR sees federal-style autonomy vis-a-vis the Kiev government as the goal southeast Ukraine. Compare this with the the Hamas goals are set forth in the organization's Charter: obliterating the State of Israel by Jihad and replacing Israel with the Islamic State of Palestine. It must be noted that the Hamas Charter, in Article 13, specifically rejects peace with Israel. It is apparent that when Hamas agrees to a ceasefire with Israel, it does not consider itself as negotiating peace with Israel. Ceasefire talks are merely aimed at giving Hamas time to re-group until it resumes what it sees as its holy war to destroy Israel.

It should also be noted that President Obama, in his first term, reached out to the Moslem Brotherhood.

LPR is not aware of any criticism expressed by the President towards the Brotherhood. Article 2 of the Hamas Charter states that Hamas is a branch of the Moslem Brotherhood.

Accordingly, when the Obama Administration supported Hamas / Palestine Authority reconciliation, last April, it supported the reunion of the PA with a branch of the Moslem Brotherhood committed to Jihad against Israel and replacement of Israel by an Islamic State -- clearly not consistent with the two-state solution acceptance of Israel by her enemies.

The Hamas Charter, in Articles 15 and 30, asks the media to cooperate in preparing for a successful Jihad against Israel. The media performance covering the Gaza fighting suggests that much of the media has accepted the Hamas invitation to be helpful in Jihad against Israel.

The response to the Gaza fighting suggests, further, that Hamas has another significant ally against Israel: the traditional anti-Semitism in Europe that manifested itself in July and August.

It is to be expected that the UN will now show itself an ally of Hamas in Jihad against Israel.

LPR would advise the Netanyahu government to say, of any and all UN resolutions and actions attacking Israel, accusing the Jewish State of war crimes: You can take your resolutions and actions and shove them.
