APRIL
22, 2004 --
LPR was not at
Fenway Park, April 19, but it did get to Fenway Park the next day,
the ballpark’s 92nd birthday, Sid Rosenberg reminded Imus
listeners April 20. The Red Sox graciously permitted LPR to take
photos of the storied baseball site, and LPR took photos of the
exterior and vicinity as well. A large, very well-stocked souvenir
store opposite the park on Yawkey War sells "YANKEE GO HOME" tee
shirts. And at Boston Beer Works, opposite the Red Sox ticket office,
the large variety of brews include Bambino Ale, on tap here for
twelve years, LPR was told. The ballpark photos show the short
left field wall, famously called "The Green Monster"--
souveniers include green monsters, and the stands that gracefully
slope down to the field in right center.
There was no
world series one hundred years ago-- in 1904. That omission had
something to do with an argument between the National and American
leagues, not a major league labor dispute. The Red Sox might want
to invite Coach Calhoun to all home games -- certainly those against
the Yankees and other contenders.
