JANUARY 19, 2008 --
"Justice," the Brandeis University student newspaper indicates that the school's administration has not eased its position in the Hindley matter in response to criticism from the faculty senate.
As of this writing, Prof. Hindley must continue to be monitored by an assistant provost, and remains subject to possible termination if he does not undergo sensitivity training.
The facts of this case are still obscured by confidentiality claims that themselves suggest problems of procedure butting against bureaucratic defensiveness.
LPR hopes that someone the administration would not ignore recommends that fact-finding panels be established to hear classroom harassment cases -- panels consisting, in whole or in part, of alumni. |
Follow-Up follow-up
"The Justice" (www.justiceonline.com) in a January 29
article about criticism from the Foundation for
Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) of the Brandeis
University administration's conduct in the Hindley
matter, reported that Professor Hindley said he had
received a letter, January 7, from University Provost
Marty Krauss stating that the matter is closed. (The
article also posts comments from this writer.)
For LPR, the need for standard procedures and
impartial fact-finders in
college classroom harassment cases continues.
