Where Are the Hobgoblins

JULY 7, 2008 --

Where are the Hobgoblins of yesteryear

When I was young they seemed all around me

Subjects of a night sleep’s fear

Keeping me from sleeping soundly

I read of them in children’s books

And worried at Halloween

That they would give me evil looks

From places to me unseen

Many many years have passed along with my concern

That mischief is in store for me by a hobgoblin’s turn

This is not to say I’ve escaped from troubled plans

It’s just that they turned out to be caused by human hands

Anxiety and depression a hobgoblin never did bring

Humans charging 30 percent interest is another thing

Hobgoblins really were our friends, frightening away our Greed

Indeed they made it possible to help someone in need
