JULY
3, 2004 --
LPR chanced to
spot former Vermont Governor and Democratic Presidential hopeful
Howard Dean on Lexington Avenue, the morning of July 2, in front
of the D'Agostino's Supermarket, between 83rd and 84th Street.
Had Gov. Dean prevailed in the Democratic race, it is highly unlikely
that 1) He would have been shopping in an east side supermarket,
and 2) that he would have been easily approachable by a stranger
with a camera.
Thinking the
matter over, later in the day. LPR concluded that Gov. Dean should
continue his political career by seeking the mayoralty of the City
of New York. Perhaps Gov. Dean is the person, having such a liberal
reputation, to scrape away the growing encrustation of rules, regs.
and regimentation on New Yorkers. This is, now, truly Regulation
City. It took the Republican Richard Nixon to go to China. Perhaps
it will take a liberal to remove the yoke of rules from the people
of New York.
LPR wonders how
the driver of a car with Florida plates felt about getting his
car towed early one recent morning, from Central Park West and
86th Street. And while the crackdown on drivers continues, street
conditions worsen. LPR noticed that the hole on 84th Street, between
Park and Lexington was still there Saturday, July 3, a couple days
after LPR first spotted it.
There is, of
course, no guarantee that Howard Dean would be an improvement over
the Finemeister, but perhaps Dean as mayor, would not spit at the
Declaration of Independence, July Fourth weekend by sending out "swarms
of officers, to harass our people, and eat out their substance." In
the City of New York, such officers include parking violations
personnel who ticket cars for $65 or $115. LPR was going to denounce
this violation by City Hall and the local pols who let City Hall
do it, of a key provision of the Declaration of Independence, ---
even if LPR had not received a $65 ticket on Lexington Avenue,
July 3, for not putting another 25¢ in the meter fast enough.
