The Real Lesson Of IRS-gate

July 1, 2014 --

President Obama, asked about the IRS situation at a joint press conference with United Kingdom Prime Minister David Cameron, said it was "outrageous" if conservatives had been targeted by the IRS.

The President went on to say that the IRS must be "non-partisan," "people have to be held accountable," adding, "And we will make sure that we find out exactly what happened on this." LPR is not convinced that the President comments, May 13, 2013 are honored by the refusal of former IRS official Lois Lerner to testify before a congressional committee, the disappearance of her emails and those of other IRS personnel, or the support from Democrat members of Congress for IRS stonewalling.

Indeed, LPR seriously wonders if the President still honors his May 13 remarks on IRS-gate. Columnist George Will has suggested that the partisan slant at the IRS is worse than Democrat complaints, in the Nixon impeachment, that Nixon wanted to use the IRS as a political weapon.

From the LPR perspective, the left's war on conservatives instructs that had Nixon been a Democrat, he would never have been impeached by the House of Representatives, much less forced to resign.
