The New York Times reported, May 15, 2013 (at page A15) that President Obama asked Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew, in part, “’to hold those responsible for [ IRS] failures accountable….” The president was referring to the heavy-handed IRS scrutiny givenconservative grousp seeking tax exemptions.

What happened at the IRS since May, 2013? LPR is not aware that the Obama adminstration took any action against those “responsib le” at the IRS for singling out conservative groups for invidious scrutiny. LPR has no difficulty with the president-elect’s decision not to press legal action against Hillary Clinton. If, however, Mr. Trumo intends to drain the D.C. swamp, he must depoliticize the IRS and hold responsible any government staffer who carried out partisan warfare against conservatives.

LPR would further advise the president-elect not to expect support from the left, particularly including The New York Times and The Washington Post in his action to restore nonpartisanship to the IRS—and, indeed, to all the agencies of the federal government. The left (including the ACLU), after all, cheers the powers of government applied to hammer conservatives.
