The Intrepid:
First Mired; Then Admired

DECEMBER 11, 2006 --

The great aircraft carrier left its New York City berth on the Hudson River, at about 9 A.M., December 5, three months after its scheduled departure for an overhaul in Bayonne, New Jersey -- a delay caused by mire.

This bright, clear and crisp morning, hundreds of people came to admire the ship as made its way, thanks to stouthearted tugboats and crews, down the Hudson River to Bayonne.

The Intrepid will reportedly return to its Hudson River mooring for resumed duty as
museum in 18 to 24 months.

One of the accompanying photos shows that those saluting the Bayonne-bound
Intrepid included a seagull.
