Kicking Over the Traces

February 15, 2014 --

During Nixon days, the late law professor Alexander Bickel pointed out that there is really nothing to stop a president who is intent on "kicking over the traces." As it turned out, Prof. Bickel's comment did not apply to Richard Nixon.

LPR would suggest that it presently applies to President Obama who one moment presides over a state dinner befitting the One Percent, and then claims to be concerned about economic inequality while he skews the unemployment figures, arrogates to himself the power to determine certain federal wages, and continues to turn his back on the job possibilities offered by the Keystone pipeline--and, among other things, declares, the facts notwithstanding, that the climate change debate is settled.
