LPR Reviews 2004 -- Part 2

DECEMBER 19, 2004 --

(Proprietor's Note -- Last week, LPR referred to itself as a "phlogsite." Since then, LPR has learned that there are some 174,000 googles under "phlog," AND that there is a "phlog.com" -- for photo log. BUT apparently there is also some support for "phlog" as "phone log." LPR was not aware of Phlog.com when it called itself a phlogsite. LPR also reports that there is presently one google for "phlogsite" -- LPR's google. Should an LPR clickster google "phlogsite"--she should be prepared for the query if the search were for "phlogiston.")

LPR got this photo early in May -- of New York Times publisher Arthur O. Sulzberger, Jr. and the Finemeister having a good laugh -- LPR still wonders if
the laugh is aimed at us.

From May 2004 -- Why are these men smiling broadly?

Certainly that obscure diagram barring a right turn on green at 46th Street and Broadway offers officials a laugh on motorists.

From May 2004 -- Diagrams replace words.

November 15, the laugh cost this writer $90 bucks (including a $50 New York state surcharge -- to not fix roads?) when an administrative judge rejected a plea for fairness under the circumstances of rainy night and hard to see sign.

Later in May the 911 Commission held two days of hearings in Manhattan, and witnesses included Rudy Giuliani and Bernard Kerik, who have gotten themselves in the news a bit more recently, with Kerik's nanny-attributed decision to step down as Homeland Security Secretary-designate (HoSecSec-des).

May 2004 -- Silent protest in the audience as Mayor Giuliani spoke.

There has been some skepticism that Mr. Kerik withdrew his nomination for a nanny problem. At the Commission hearing, as this "Fiction" sign indicated, there was
some skepticism about the Commission's probe.

Early in June, LPR got this photo of Broadway Show League Commissioer Carlos Martinez scoring for The Boy
From Oz
, the Hugh Jackman musical that socred a hit with audiences, notwithstandikng cool reviews of this musical about songwriter/entertainer Peter Allen.

June 2004 -- Carlos Martinez, Boy From Oz first baseman and league commissioner scoring against the Wife team.

As June ended, so did the governorship in Connecticut of John G. Rowland, cut short for scandal.

From June 2004 -- A last look at a perk, of the legal kind.

LPR got this photo of Beverly McClellan at the awards evening of the New York Independnet International Music Festival. Ms. McClellan was best performer at
the festival.

july 2004 -- Beverly McClellan, Best Performer.

The photo was posted in the July 3 LPR along with a photo of Howard Dean, who LPR recommended for NYC mayor and, instead, is seeking to head the Democratic Natioal Committee.

July 2004 -- Former Presidential candidate Howard Dean.

Other LPR photos in July included the Connecticut Agricultural Fair, in Goshen
(don't miss it in 2005), scenes outside the Democratic National Convention in Boston, and the remarkable Jeff Fabry, at the archery nationals in Reading, Pennsylvania.

From July 2004 -- Oxen pulls at the Connecticut Agricultural Fair.

July 2004 -- The midway begins to fill with fair-goers on Saturday at the Connecticut Agricultural Fair.

July 2004 -- Jersey barriers and blocked streets made LPR feel right at home in Boston.

July 2004 -- Jeff Fabry, fourth place finisher in the open men's compound competition.

The CBS Broadcast Center was one of the places LPR suggested that delegates to the Republican National Convention might visit.

LPR here affirms it had no idea that Dan Rather and CBS News would give credence, during the presidential campaign, to a document -- on the millitary service of President Bush -- that would turn out to be a forgery.

August 2004 -- The TV Studios known as the CBS Broadcast Center, where CBS News broadcasts nightly.

August 2004 -- Leslie Cagan, National Coordinator UFPJ (at the August 10, 2004 News Conference).

As 2004 draws to a close, United for Peace and Justice continues to dissent from the Bush presidency and recently has called for contributions -- and the
purchase of UFPJ merchandise. (By the way, LPR is still planning to come out with its own merchandise.)

August 2004 -- An anti-Bush sign that is on a building at the SE corner of Seventh Avenue and 26th Street.

Last August, LPR covered UFPJ press conferences, and its August demonstration against President Bush and the GOP convention in Manhattan, which included such noted protesters as Rev. Jesse Jackson, Michael Moore,
Ms. Cagan, and Danny Glover.

August 2004 -- Close-up of Michael Moore, Leslie Cagan, Rev. Jackson and actor Danny Glover pausing in front of Madison Square Garden.

August 2004 -- Marchers heading east on 34th Street, with a very interesting sign prominant -- a moderate sign for this march.

LPR did not, alas, see any signs among the anti-Bushies protesting the crumbling roadways of New York, or calling for affordable parking fines and clearly legible and visible parking direction signs.

August 2004 -- Offical neglect--or anti-protest trap?

Part 3 next week.
