Writing Common Sense to Power
D. R. ZUKERMAN, proprietor
LPR At Night

JANUARY 30, 2005 --

LPR attended two Tsunami benefits, last week.

On January 26, a benefit -- proceeds to go to Worldvision - Australia -- organized by the Australian consulate in New York City, was held at Crobar, on West 28th Street.

On hand were a good many Aussies,
including Jennifer Hawkins, the reigning Miss Universe, and Darren Hayes, the
singer/songwriter.

January 26 is Australia Day, commemorating the arrival of the British fleet at Sydney, in 1788. Ms. Hawkins is from Sydney -- as is Hugh Jackman, who reportedly is making a film, and is said, recently, to have signed a movie musicals
contract with Disney. Mr. Hayes is from Brisbane.

Kate Kennedy, strategic director for
Worldvision - Australia, was on hand from Melbourne. Her brother Paul is currently living in New York City.

LPR spoke briefly with Ms. Kennedy, after meeting Woody Michleb and model Amy-Louise, here from Toronto to see their friend Darren Hayes perform.

Also attending was Ken Allen, since August 2001 Australia's consul-general in New York City.

Also on the list of performers/presenters were: Brad Blanks, Second Dan, Ben Lee, and WNBC's Kathryn Eisman.

After attending the Tsunami benefit at Plaid, January 27 -- proceeds going to C.A.R.E -- LPR was struck by a certain similarity of design on the blouse of a
model at the C.A.R.E. benefit compared with the design on Australian indigenous music performer Cameron McCarthy.

The opening act at Crobar, January 26, Cameron McCarthy, performs Australian indigenous music.
