LPR Congratulates...

April 19, 2019 --

Congratulations University of Texas...

...for winning the National Invitation Tournament in New York City's Madison Square Garden, defeating Lipscomb, 81 - 66. LPR regrets that the media largely ignored your championship, being preoccupied with the March Madness tournament that saw the University of Virginia defeating Texas Tech in overtime, 85-77.

Congratulations Israel

Israel sent a rocket to the moon, this month. It succeeded in orbiting the moon and photographing the lunar landscape but lost contact as it landed. If the landing had succeeded, Israel would have joined the U.S., the former Soviet Union and China in landing a spacecraft on the moon. (When Hamas, of course, fires a rocket from Gaza, it is aimed at Israeli population centers, not the moon.)

Congratulations Tiger Wood

The New York Times told readers, April 15, that the victory of Tiger Woods in the Masters golf tournament "immediately reverberated beyond golf and, for that matter, sports." As if to underscore the point, the paper reported Woods's fifth Master's win and his first major win in 11 years, on page one, continuing inside the general news section, as well as reporting Woods's remarkable achievement on the sports papers The news story noted that in 1997, Woods "became the first African-American--Woods is also half Thai--player to win golf's most exalted championship."

This article included mention of congratulatory tweets from President Trump and former president Barack Obama.

The article did not, however, refer to President Obama as an African-American who is also half white.
