JULY
30, 2004 --
The LPR camera
was in Goshen, Connecticut, July 24, and in the next seven days
went to Boston, Massachusetts, Hudson, New York,
Reading, Pennsylvania -- and New York City.
Goshen was site of the 37th annual Connecticut Agricultural Fair,
which put on display farm animals of various sizes and species,
including oxen, cows, calves, sheep, goats, horses and poultry.
And there was terrific entertainment brought to the fair by Entertainment
Coordinator Terri Fassio and her staff.

|
Amusements,
exhibits, and kid's entertainment delighted children and adults.
Visitors included celebrity / comedian
Joan
Rivers and her daughter Melissa Rivers.
LPR sends
a Federalist 57 salute to the Connecticut State Grange for making
the fair possible, and to Fair President Todd Gelineau and his
staff for putting it all
together.
The Democratic National Convention opened in Boston, Monday,
July 26 and LPR viewed outside the event.
The site of the convention venue, the Fleet Center, cordoned
off from the people, was a bit chilling, suggesting to LPR that
if
we are now two Americas, they consist of the political insiders
and most of us outsiders.

Standing outside
one of the Fleet Center perimeter gates, LPR met Jay Kamhi, who was
on hand to call attention to his talking

recommends www.spicemice.com to
its clickster for more information on these and other talking
mice created by Mr. Kamhi.
A visit to his website will, LPR predicts, bring a smile to
the visitor. A smile
certainly welcome after considering the grim view of the exterior
of the Fleet Center photographed by LPR -- with, possibly,
the exception of the women wearing Kerry Okie T-shirts.

On Tuesday,
LPR interviewed John Gallagher, director of the improv movie "Cupidity," previously
featured in
LPR. Mr. Gallagher has completed a biography of director
William Wellman, and LPR recommends this book
when it is published. Mr. Wellman directed such classics
as the original "A Star is Born," "Beau Geste," and "The
Ox-Bow Incident." More on the interview with director
Gallagher in an upcoming LPR.

Wednesday,
LPR went to the Fix Brothers Farm, in Hudson, New York, to pick
peaches (the season has about
another two weeks to go.) Based on reaction to the LPR-picked peaches, New
York state has reason to boast about its peach bounty.

Saturday,
in Manhattan, LPR learned that an international dragonboat
competition was underway on the Hudson River. LPR photographed,
and spoke with a team from the University of Waterloo, near
Toronto, and then watched the end of one dragonboat heat, to
be surprised when one of the runners-up capsized after
crossing the finish line.
This capizing was close to the river's edge and LPR saw crew members standing
up after being tossed from their boat. Who would have known that at low tide
the Hudson is shallow off the river bank?

|
Soon after,
as LPR watched the Waterloo boat take an early lead, two other
boats
seemed to collide, and LPR was on hand to photograph another capsizing.
One spectator told LPR that apparent lack of this knowledge, in at least one
incident, has resulted in drownings.
This has been the first LPR plog, by intention. Considering the number of photos
that regularly appear at this website, perhaps LPR has long been a plog. |
