LPR Suggests...

LPR's First Suggestion for bringing back a Broadway musical

Kismet, with Hugh Jackson in the lead role of Hajj the poet (beggar) originated by the marvelous Alfred Drake,

The first link is to the melody in Alexander Borodin's Nocturne, adapted by Robert Wright and George Forrest for the song "And this is my beloved" in their Kismet score (all melodies from Borodin's compositions).

The second link is of "And this is my beloved" as sung by the original cast: Alded Drake as Hajj; Doretta Morrow as Marsinah, his daughter; Henry Calvin as the Wazir (villain), and Richad Kiley, years before he was "The Man of La Mancha."

Calling on Jujamcyn or Shubert to revive this wonderful musical and "LPR wants to be assistant to the producer."

LPR's second idea for a Broadway revival

Fiorello! - the 1959 musical about Mayor La Guardia starring Tom Bosely, music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick. LPR likes this score even more than the score for the Bock-Harnick musical, five years later: Fiddler on the Roof.

And who would make a Fiorello! revival a smash it -- why NATHAN LANE as Fiorello! of course. Here is the overture for a taste of the score's terrific songs, followed by "The name's La Guardia," sung partly in Yiddish.

P.S. LPR thinks the Met should add to Les Miserables in French to its repertoire.

"On the Side of the Angels"

From the original cast album of Bock and Harnick's "Fiorello!"

(LPR thinks this musical should be revived with Nathan Lane in the Fiorella LaGuardia role originally played by Tom Bosley. Jordan Roth, Jujamcyn president, take notice.)
