A Letter to Donald J. Trump,
Dated August 10, 2016

August 10, 2016 --

Dear Donald J. Trump:

Thank you for your recent letter with
T
rump Card. Your letter begins: “The liberal media doesn’t like me.” I would change that to: “The leftist media that loathes me wants our government to be based on the consent of a favored few.”

Mark Twain once wrote: “Irreverence is the champion of liberty and its only sure defense.” You are obviously an irreverent candidate, acting to defend liberty. And so, the left would alter Twain’s observation to this: “ Irreverence towards Hillary Clinton is both indefensible, and evidence of mental instability.” But then, dictatorships have been known for treating dissidents for insanity.

You mention that the left’s latest lie is the claim that you will lose to Hillary Clinton in a landslide. When it comes to the left’s latest lie about you, that lie needs updating on a daily basis. The media lie for today, August 10, is that you called for violence against Hillary Clinton.

A French adage offers insight in the left’s campaign to destroy you and your supporters, an aim disclosed the other day by leftist David Plouffe. The adage, in translation goes: “This animal is dangerous; it defends itself when attacked.” This, I submit, explains the left’s claim that you are “dangerous.”

How vicious is the leftist media? New York Times columnist Timothy Egan sneered at Patricia Smith, whose son Sean was killed in Benghazi victim, as “grief-deranged.”

What is the source of media venom against you? Your candidacy threatens to bring renewed vitality to Jefferson’s assertion, in the Declaration of Independence, that the just powers of government are based on”the consent of the governed.”

For leftists, power derives from the consent of the ideologically-committed few, and, for them, the proper role of the people is to sacrifice for the favored few.

There is a bizarre report today recommending that the Republican Party make a deal to concede the election to Hillary Clinton.

The very idea is evidence of a willingness, indeed an eagerness, to betray the legacy of liberty bequeathed to us by the Founding Fathers.

It takes a great deal of courage, today, to defend and uphold our Constitution. May G-d continue to favor you in your commitment to “make America great again.”

Sincerely,

David R. Zukerman
