AUGUST
28, 2006 --
Excellency:
Lonely Pamphleteer Review has, I believe, a few clicksters in Iran, this month,
and I was wondering if you might be one of them. If so, I hope you liked the
photos of the Connecticut Agricultural Fair among
others. And please don't hesitate to participate in the LPR poll. (Also, let
me know if you would like to order LPR merchandise and some of my photocards.)
Mr. President,
Last night, I skimmed the very long letter that you sent to President Bush,
last May and is posted on several websites. I could not help but notice that
you share, perhaps more with Rush Limbaugh than with President Bush, the belief
that Liberalism is a failure. Were it not for your criticism and belief in
God, I would have recommended that you submit your
long letters to the New York Review.
Mr. President,
Clearly LPR is too small to be honored to have a conversation with you, including
photo op, the next time you speak at the United Nations, notwithstanding your
apparent misgiving of international organizations (another point of concurrence
with American
conservatives).
In the event, then, that you should be interviewed by Andrea Mitchell, of NBC
News, I would be grateful if you raised the
matter of 29.99% interest rates on credit cards, along with the problem about
Iranian funds still frozen here.
I do not presume to advise you, but if an Iranian bank issued credit cards
with a 5.9% interest rate, it might be a plus in your relations with the American
people. And if you released oil sending the price of gas way down where it
really belongs, you would certainly be striking a populist blow for the common
man. Please feel free to refer to Federalist 57 when you make populist statements.
The first half
of the document would be of great interest to you, including the advice that
leaders should stay close to the people and serve the common good.
I see that you were born October 28, 1956, the day before the start of the
1956 Suez campaign in the War Against the Existence of Israel., At the time,
I was
a junior in high school and had written a paper in English class noting that
the Eisenhower Administration criticized Israel for moving to end attacks from
Egypt, while the Wilson Administration
had sent Gen, Pershing into Mexico to chase Pancho Villa, (It will be interesting
to see if Mexico will put to its own use the phrase in Security Council Resolution
242 (1967) - barring the acquisition of
territory by force.) Israel was probably unwise to coordinate with England
and France in 1956.
Mr. President,
On several occasions you have referred to the ineffectiveness of Liberalism
and of western democracy. This has me wondering if you see merit to lifetime
tenure for presidents of nation-states? You also seem somewhat critical of
government people in Israel and have referred to "the Zionist regime" as "a
forgery." Respectfully, was that a misstatement?

a ceasefire in Lebanon.

Were you perhaps
referring to The Protocols of the Elders of Zion which, of course,
is a forgery.
Mr. President,
As my family name begins with Z, I hasten to assure that the name is not an acronym
for Zionists Usually Know Everything Respecting Man And Nature. On the matter
of names, may I inquire if you prefer Ahmadinejad, or Ahmadi-Nejad as I have
also seen it spelled? And
would you assure me that your name is not an acronym for: Articulate Hate Messages
Asserting Destroy Israel Nazi
Emulators Jews Are Devils.
Mr. President,
Please forgive the length of this letter. Before closing I would mention a point
that came to mind in the 1980s -- that Iran and Israel have much in common, not
least that they were each attacked by Arab countries, and third parties tended
to make excuses for the states that started the war against your country and,
previously, the war against Israel. I would also note that the international
community seems to have difficulty accepting national self-determination when
exercised by Israel. The national self-determination
issue is, I believe, also relevant to the Islamic Republic of Iran with respect
to what you call "R&D."
May I close in wishing that the new Jewish year of 5767, less than a month away,
be one of good health, service to all the people and peace.
Accept, Excellency, assurances of my highest consideration.
