LPR attended a press conference called by Council Member Bill Perkins, at City Hall, April 4, to mark the 37th anniversary
of the assassination of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Speakers at the press conference included Rev. Albert Pennybacker, who announced a 27 city bus tour to promote a progressive religious agenda, and Rev
Jesse L. Jackson, Jr.

A service was held at Riverside Church, that evening, to mark the 38th anniversary of Dr. King's speech at the church, against the Vietnam War -- as well as his
assassination, one year later.

Speakers at the service, in addition to Rev. Jesse Jackson, included Cleveland Mayor Jane Louise Campbell, and two leaders of Gold Star Families for Peace, Ms. Celeste Zappala, and Ms. Cindy Sheehan. Ms. Zappala's son, Sgt. Sherwood Baker, age 30, was killed in Iraq, April 26, 2004. Ms. Sheehan's son, SPC Casey Austin Sheehan, age 24, was killed in Iraq, April 4, 2004.

 

"Break The Silence" bus. The 27 city- tour began after the service at Riverside Church: first stops: Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.
