Boy, Does Margaret Sullivan
Have it Wrong

November 19, 2016 --

Washington Post writer Margaret Sullivan claimed, in her post-election column , November 10, “Donald J. Trump made hatred of the media the centerpiece of his campaign.” Poor Ms. Sullivan. Reality remains fantasy for her. In fact, it hatred of Donald J. Trump by the media, along with disdain and loathing for his supporters, that was the centerpiece of media coverage of Trump. LPR commends to Ms. Sullivan the post-election observation, November 13, by New York Times anti-Trump columnist (but I repeat myself) Frank Bruni: “Political correctness has morphed into a moral purity that may feel exhilarating but isn’t remotely tactical. It’s a handmaiden to smugness and sanctimony , undermining its own goals.”

Maureen Dowd, also in The New York Times, November 13, suddenly noted, “As she cuddled up to Wall Street, Hillary forgot about the forgotten man—and woman.” Ms. Dowd then pointed out: Hillary’s campaign message boiled down to ‘It’s my turn, dammit.’”

But leave it to the very smug and sanctimonious David Brooks to end his November 11 Times column: “The guy [Trump] will probably resign or be impeached within a year. The futures is closer than you think.”
