SEPTEMBER 6, 2007 --

Ceremonies marking competition for the Mariano Rivera Baseball Cup got underway, the morning of September 1, on a sandlot field in the Bronx, at Prospect Avenue and East 181st St.

The proceedings were held in Spanish, but LPR could recognize the name Mariano Rivera when the public address announcer introduced the great Yankee pitcher to the crowd.

Later that afternoon, Mariano got another save as the Yankees defeated Tampa Bay 9 - 6.

(Note: The site of the Mariano Rivera baseball competition is not far from the location of the tragic accident on East Tremont Avenue. LPR caught sight of this baseball tournament shortly after driving away from the accident site.)
