Congratulations to Matthew Wolff

July 19, 2019 --

Matthew Wolff, in winning the inaugural 3M Open, in Blaine, Minn,, two months after gaining the NCAA single's title, became just the third golfer to win both the NCAA championship and a PGA title in the same year. The others are Tiger Wood and Ben Crenshaw. Wolff, 20, won the NCAA title as a U. of Oklahoma sophomore, in May, and turned pro shortly after. He won the 3M Open in his fourth PGA tournament, and gained his victory in dramatic fashion, winning the event on the last hole with a 26 foot putt that gave him an eagle, and a 21 under-par 263 for the tournament.

The 3M was not a qualifying tournament for the British Open so Wolff cannot compete at Royal Portrush this year.

LPR expects, however, that Matthew Wolff will qualify for many majors, including the British Open, in the future. Brooks Koepka, with a six under par, was 65th in the 3M Open. He is, of course, going to Royal Portrush.
