Writing Common Sense to Power
D. R. ZUKERMAN, proprietor
Snow and Central Park
"Mayor" Arroyo

MARCH 6, 2005 --

LPR was back in the park March 1, to get Gates-in-the-snow pictures, returning the next day when skies had cleared.

Leaving the park, March 2, LPR met Alberto Arroyo, unofficlal "mayor" of Central Park and officially-recognized as the first person to run around the reservoir, in 1935, at age 19.

Two windows in the stone blockhouse at the southern end of the reservoir carry tributes to Mr. Arroyo, now 89, who was written up in Newsday, February 27.

LPR walked with Mr. Arroyo, to the park's East Drive -- getting a photo of "The Gates," reflecting off the rear glass facade of the Metropolitan Museum. LPR left Mr. Arroyo at this point, to head back to the west side, while, with walker, he continued down the drive to the Boathouse.
