2007 Mayor's Cup Wheelchair Basketball Tournament

OCTOBER 18, 2007 --

This year's Mayor's Cup Wheelchair Basketball competition drew teams from Los Angeles, Dallas, Rochester, N.Y and Accra, Ghana, as well as a Connecticut team and teams from the New York metropolitan area. Games were held, October 6 and 7, in the Bronx, , at Manhattan College and Horace Mann School.

The CRS Hot Wheels of Los Angeles defeated the Connecticut Spokesbenders, 59 - 38, in the tournament's Division III final. The Dallas Mavericks defeated the New York Rolling Knicks, 76 - 46 in the tournament's Division II final.

Games consist of two 20 minute halves. Baskets are the standard 10 foot height.

This is the seventh Mayor's Cup Wheelchair Basketball Tournament. The tournament was created by the New York City Sports Commission. Trophies and medals were presented by Sports Commissioner Ken Podziba and tournament director Jeff Mohl.

(Note to LPR clicksters: this is not a typo; Manhattan College IS located in the Bronx, the only borough of New York City that is part of the U.S. mainland -- except a small piece of Manhattan, like the Bronx, is north of the Harlem River, which is not actually a river. But enough of NYC geographical anomalies.)
