A Political Comment From "Meet John Doe" Appropriate to Today's Aggrandizers

December 19, 2015 --

In the Capra movie, Willoughby, learning that Bulletin publisher D.B. Norton intends to use the John Doe movement to rule the country, tells Norton: "If you can't lay your dirty fingers on a decent idea and twist it and squeeze it and stuff it into your own pocket, you slap it down!" ( Ibid., p. 112.) Is there a Republican candidate for president -- Mike Huckabee, perhaps -- who will take that remark and direct it at today's self-absorbed, aggrandizing Democrat and Republican establishments? LPR sees Huckabee as the GOP candidate closest to a Capra populist hero.
