Merry Christmas, Happy New Year

December 19, 2020 --

LPR wishes its clicksters a Joyous, Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy New Year, where political strife -- and Trump-loathing -- is dissipated.

Some time ago, LPR quoted from Richard Nixon's sage advice on hating, and here will just recall his insight that hating does far more harm to the hater
than to the hated.

The year 2020 has not been easy for all of us.  In this connection, LPR would call attention to the insight of political scientist E.E. Schattschneider who observed that universal change is more acceptable to society than relative change, citing as example the likely deleterious affect on society if only a few people had been able to buy automobiles, rather than the many.

And so, certainly with respect to "masking" requirements, all of us are affected.

True, the regulations imposed by decree issuing from political executives like New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo test their capacity to resist becoming tyrants, but we, all of us, are in the same Covid-10 boat -- and perhaps ought speak up more, if we still have the right to speak up; pray that the new year does not see repression push aside liberty.  May 2021 prove the continued vitality of Madison's observation, also, in Federalist No. 57, that the spirit resides in the American people "which nourishes freedom, and in return is nourished by it."
