Shame on Michael Barone

September 15, 2013 --

Michael Barone, in his syndicated column appearing in the New York Post September 9, argued that a vote again a congressional resolution supporting a presidential order for an attack on Syria "risks underming the power of the presidency--and of America--for years."

Shame on Mr. Barone for being more concerned about the power of the presidency than for the authority of the Constitution, from which presidential power is derived.

Presidential power is not what a given president says it is; it is not what Michael Barone says it is. Presidential power is what the Constitution says it is.

To argue on behalf of unrestrained presidential power, by the facile claim that constitutional limits will undercut presidential power, is to place us on the road to tyranny. Shame on Michael Barone for dissing the Constitution.
