Miles from the Mainstream
D. R. ZUKERMAN, proprietor
Monolithic Mike

OCTOBER 2, 2005 --

Just four years ago, Michael R. Bloomberg was caught by this writer on primary day, walking down Park Avenue, head down, unnoticed.

It was September 25, 2001, the day of the rescheduled mayoral primary -- the original date was September 11.

What a difference an election makes. And four years later, it seems that his name will be everywhere in New York City. LPR happened to catch a Bloomberg film crew working on a campaign commercial on
Riverdale Avenue, in The Bronx, just up from a store that had been vacant, and will be a Bloomberg site until election day. The campaign image is of Mayor Mike.

LPR sees it as Monolithic Mayor Mike and can hear the crowd at Bloomberg's
election night location shouting " We Like Mike." LPR expects a second term for the mayor who is presently barred by law from a third term.

And with a Bloomberg second term, the first vision that comes to mind is of many, many cars being towed away -- and rule in
New York City falling rather hard on a dwindling middle class.

LPR does not expect the next Bloomberg term to be guided by the counsel of Federalist 57, that leaders work for the common good and stay close to the people. LPR also expects further reduction in on-street parking and, of course, record revenue from the hapless motorists ensnared by the Parking
Violations Bureau.

Then -- September 25, 2001 (on Park Avenue, primary day).

Now, September 18, 2005 (at
Broadway on Broadway).
