October 19, 2022 -- Company Medley This selection links to the "Company" medley by Arthur Fiedler conducting the Boston Pops. The marvelous score is by Stephen Sondheim, intricate lyrics as well as music, with book by George Furth. Part of he credit must go to Richard Hayman, who orchestrated this medley, as he did for many other Pops medleys of Broadway show songs.
West Side Story Medley While Stephen Sondheim wrote the lyrics for the songs in "West Side Story," the music was by the multi-talented (composer, conductor, pianist) Leonard Bernstein. This medley by the Boston Pops was conducted by John Williams.
Fiddler on the Roof Medley This "Fiddler on the Roof" medley is by the Boston Pops, conducted by Arthur Fiedler. Music by Jerry Bock and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick. Joseph Stein wrote the book. The original Tevye was Zero Mostel. |
Sound of Music Medley This Sound of Music medley by the Boston Pops was conducted by Arthur Fiedler. Music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, who died not long after the show opened on Broadway. Mary Martin was the original Maria; Theodore Bikel the original Capt. von Trapp. A personal note: as a sophomore at Brandeis University, LPR, April 1960, drove Mr. Hammerstein, with his wife and physician, back to his Boston hotel after he honored a promise to Brandeis President Abram Sachar to give a talk to the student body, He passed away a few months later.
