SEPTEMBER
25, 2005 --
There
is growing comment about lack of confidence in President Bush.
(LPR saw the pre-Katrina gas price increases as reason for
concern.)
Dare we now wonder if the President has lost a bit of confidence in his own
capacity for leadership?
Would a confident President have named Judge Roberts to be Chief Justice of
the United States -- or would he have left Roberts a nominee as associate justice
on the Supreme Court of the United States and made another appointment -- say
Justice Antonin Scalia, as chief justice.

Also, conservatives
are said to be expressing concern about the apparent failure of
Republicans in Congress to stand firm for limited government.
Republicans have yet to appreciate that they are in the congressional majority
only because voters probably believe Democrats are a bit too fond of ruling,
rather than representing, the people.
And, of course, Republicans -- even Karl Rove, have difficulty telling the difference
between political friend and adversary.
More reason to conclude Republicans are, as others have noted, just Democrats-lite.
This means they are only a little bit less far from the people and our founding
principles than the Democrats.
