The New York City Blizzard that Wasn't

February 5, 2015 --

On reports that New York City faced a snowstorm bringing more than two feet of snow, January 26/27, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo ordered that the subway system be closed -- the first time snow prediction closed the New York City subway system. Mayor Bill deBlasio banned traffic on New York City streets -- with violators facing a $300 fine, according to radio reports. Schools were ordered closed. Many businesses did not or could not open. Public offices were closed Regular radio programming was replaced by full coverage of the impending blizzard. The reality? New York City got about half a foot of snow. Heavy accumulations fell father north and east of the city, on Long Island, and on into Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

LPR wonders: Will Gov. Cuomo, having displayed his awesome power by shutting the subways, next move to outlaw the Republican Party of New York State?

During the night of January 26/27, when it was apparent that New York City was not to be buried in two or three feet of snow, comments were heard on radio that meteorology is not an exact science.

This, of course, will not prevent The New York Times from continuing to warn about global warming.
