The 14th Annual
NYC Tugboat Challenge

SEPTEMBER 5, 2006 --

Now -- to rather larger boats, in their natural environment.

An email from the NYC sports commissioner advised LPR about this event, held September 3 on the Hudson
River. (That is New Jersey behind the tugs.)

In addition to a race from Pier 86 south to Pier 63 (about from 42nd Street to 23rd Street) the competition included bow-to-bow pushing and line-throwing.

LPR here offers its clicksters images of the race, won, a spectator at the finish line told me, by the big boat. And how about that ferocious-looking tug?

(This event got LPR thinking about Disney's brave tug: "Little Toot".)
