Call Them the
"Never Say Nay-hawks"

APRIL 10, 2008 --

Down by nine points with a little more than two minutes left in the game, Kansas closed that gap, with Memphis on a three pointer by Mario Chalmers with 2.1 seconds remaining to take the NCAA Men's Division I championship game into overtime, 63-63.  In the overtime period, the Jayhawks went on to outscore the Tigers 12-5 for a 75-68  title win at the San Antonio Alamodome, April 7.

Kansas got into the final by upsetting North Carolina 84-66,  Memphis defeated UCLA 78 - 63 in its semi-final.

With North Carolina having been regarded as the top first  seed in the tournament, the Jayhawks win over NC made Kansas the de facto top seed, a position it held onto with its win in the championship game.

LPR congratulates Kansas and coach Bill Self on its win, and the NCAA teams  and coaches, officials and organization on another great season-ending tournament.
