Of Gen. Douglas MacArthur and Afghanistan …

… It is, of course, the good work of Gen. MacArthur as, effectively, U.S.pro-consul for Japan after World War II, that led to Japan's successful  transition from imperial government to constitutional democracy.   But, as the media loathes this great general only slightly less, perhaps, than it loathes Donald Trump, we haven't had columns and editorials wondering why, if MacArthur could  help Japan become a modern democracy, why couldn't we find someone to make a successful transition to democracy in Iraq and Afghanistan?  Or is it that we just don't have a soldier/statesman of the intellect and calibre and presence of Douglas MacArthur?

Two August dates of note …

August 19, the 66th anniversary of the Winsted, CT flood that took seven lives in a city of 6,000 in 1955.

August 24, this year, the date of Andrew Cuomo's resignation as New York governor.

In 1814, the date the British set fire to the Capitol and the Executive Mansion, in Washington, D.C.

In 1906, the birthdate of LPR's mom, Annie Arkin Zukerman

Curtis Sliwa for Mayor of New York City …

Down with voter apathy

Up with the two-party system -- and democracy

Cuomo -- a latter-day Nixon?

LPR doesn't think it likely that Andrew Cuomo waited to announce his resignation as governor of New York on August 10, 2021, because he didn't welcome comparisons to Richard Nixon who resigned as president on August 9, 1974, 47 years  earlier. But who knows?  (HIs resignation is effective August 24, which will be the 115th anniversary of the birthday of LPR mom, Annie Zukerman.)

An LPR Prediction …

The rabid, radical left's obsession -- attacking Donald Trump without let-up -- will continue without let-up through 2022, and perhaps to 2024 and beyond. Inspiration for this prediction comes from the review by Nicholas Lemann of Michael Wolff's "Landslide."  Both review and, apparently, book, attack Donald Trump's mental state -- and his competence.   LPR did not notice recognition in the review, , prior to the pandemic, of the excellent results of President Trump vis-a-vis the economy and foreign affairs. (Nor did the review notice the success of Operation Warp Speed in coming up with a vaccine to deal with Covid-19.  But of course the aim of the media, now, is to prevent Mr. Trump from becoming the country's 47th president.  LPR doubts that the rabid, radical left will ever be cured of its Trump Derangement Syndrome.

August 5, 2021 --

Has anybody seen …

… or heard from, Russiagate special counsel John Durham?

LPR predicts …

… that even if New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo does not resign, or is not impeached and removed from office, the report of New York attorney general Letitia James that he sexually harassed multiple women will keep Cuomo from seeking a fourth term as governor.  (Democrats -- including Biden and Pelosi -- are falling all over themselves calling for Cuomo to resign.)

LPR would like to know …

… Is Biden going to require masks throughout his presidency because someone has convinced him that the new mask industry has become too big to fail?

A serious question …

… Why do we "take a shower," instead of "have a shower?"

Collateral question: Why do we "take a bath" and not "have a bath?"

A Question for the House Republican Leadership …

… Are the real terrorists held at Gitmo getting better treatment than the "Jan. 6" demonstrators held for months without trial on misdemeanor charges?

A Forthcoming Statement From Ben & Jerry's -- a proud Woke company?

Ben & Jerry's is proud to announce that we will no longer produce vanilla ice cream, as white is indelibly linked to white supremacy and white nationalism.  Effective immediately all our delicious flavors will be flavors of color.

Mazel tov, Pelosi has a Minyan …

… With the number of Pelosi puppets now at ten on the Committee Against Proud Republicans In Congress and Elsewhere (CAPRICE), it can be said that she has a "minyan" of anti-Trump political propagandists on her panel.

Pelosi reveals  her fangs against the Two Jims …

… In blocking Rep. Jim Banks and Rep. Jim Jordan from her Select Committee to Undermine the GOP, Nasty Nancy would undermine the American spirit of liberty recognized by Madison in Federalist  No. 57.  May the GOP rally round the flag. LPR also recommends the excommunication of any Republican who cooperates with Pelosi's attempt to banish  all members of the House GOP who don't cheney before her.

Isn't it January 6 [2021] …

Why does the leftist media insist
on writing January 6 as "Jan. 6"

Perhaps, though, and on this may I  be forgiven,
it's simply a way of shortening -- as  with  "9/11"

Still, has anybody heard a leftist talking head
declaim Jan 6 --   not, January 6, instead
