Coming Soon …

Last week, LPR was in the vicinity of Yankee Stadium and noticed a sign announcing that pitchers and catchers would report for spring training in 25 days.
(20 days as of January 29.)

LPR wonders if the Stadium should now also have a sign advising people how many days are left for Yankee Stadium, itself.

Full Disclosure at "24" …

LPR thanks the producers of "24" for posting the "real time" of the events portrayed on this counter-terror series.

Such posting has the side effect of letting viewers check the length of commercial breaks, along with segments of a given
episode.

LPR believes that after the first 15 minutes or so of an episode, the time given to commercial breaks is roughly equal to the time of the action.

(LPR allows that part of the show's reputation for fast pacing might result from
five or six minute action segments, squeezed between commercials.)

A Federalist 57 Thank You to the Torrington Post Office …

LPR posts this photo of the Torrington Post Office, partially obscured by a snow bank in appreciation of the good service at this facility.

So far as LPR can tell, there is no significant reduction of service at lunchtime. Would that other post offices had similar consideration for the public.

Kingston Trio Fans …

The Kingston Trio will be at the refurbished art deco Warner Theater, in Torrington, CT, February 3. Good to see they are not like the man in their MTA song and do return.

The Warner Theatre is located on Main Street in Torrington, CT.

Latest Member of the No Sox …

Kevin Millar is leaving Boston for the Baltimore Orioles. (But LPR heard a report that Theo Epstein will be with the Red Sox, after all, this season, which is not far off. according to a sign on Yankee Stadium indicating that pitchers and catchers report in about three weeks.)

Thank You, Google;
Thank You, Yahoo …

At Google, there are more than 650 thousand search results for "Federalist 57." LPR is on the first page, nos. 9 and 10.

At Yahoo, there are more than 750 thousand "Federalist 57" search results. LPR is on the first page here, too, no. 10.
Now, if only Federalist 57 were as prominent on the priority lists of our political and business leaders.

O' Christmas Tree …

Christmas plus 16 days on a side street on New York City's west side.

The Commute …

Will gas prices change skateboards from recreation outlets to means of commuting?

JANUARY 15, 2006 --

The Obscenity of Oppressive Credit card Interest Rates …

LPR is still waiting for elected officials to comment on the "obscene" credit card interest rates -- borrowing a word from Joseph Nocera's column on greed in corporate suites.

Economic aggrandizement, LPR believes, does not promote the common good, but, rather, would turn the economic landscape into a wasteland.

JANUARY 15, 2006 --

The Next Ross Perot -- Part II …

Mayor Bloomberg was reported to have spent some $84 million (his money) to win a second term in City Hall.

JANUARY 15, 2006 --

LPR recommends …

Newt.org., website of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich for his insightful suggestions on reforming the Washington, D.C. political culture. LPR was interested to learn that Newt's latest op-ed piece, in the Atlanta Journal Constitution, made a direct reference to Federalist 48, and its warning that the tendency of power to expand requires effective means to keep it in check.

"24"icianados Please Note …

Jack Bauer signaled via an All State commercial that former President Palmer is okay.

Over and out.

JANUARY 8, 2006 --

No More DeLay …

LPR learned, Saturday evening -- via Yahoo--that Congressman Tom DeLay was stepping down as House majority leader. LPR recommends that the Republican successor to Mr. DeLay not delay using Federalist 57 as guideline to congressional reform.

And perhaps Newt Gingrich should seek to return to Congress this year, as part of a national House Republican campaign basing political reform on Federalist 57.

JANUARY 8, 2006 --

Keeping the Faith …

Manny Ramirez "Keeping the Faith"

LPR heard a report on radio that Manny Ramirez wants to stay with the Red Sox. Considering the billboard outside Fenway Park showing him and the words "Keep the Faith" -- how could he have decided otherwise?

JANUARY 8, 2006 --

The Met on Radio …

This banner announcing 75 years of radio broadcasts of Metropolitan Opera performances indicates that broadcasts of Saturday matinees, this season, are assured.

LPR thinks that radio broadcasts of Metropolitan Opera Saturday matinees would be assured far beyond the current season if a lot of "opera lovers everywhere" (in the words of the late Milton Cross, longtime announcer for Met broadcasts) would send in contributions -- no more than $57 -- to symbolize Federalist 57, and indicate that these are grass roots -- not special interests -- donations.

Celebrating 75 years of the Metropolitan Opera radio broadcasts.

JANUARY 8, 2006 --

Get Koppel Back …

Notwithstanding the report that Ted Koppel is going to the Discovery Channel, LPR thinks that ABC News should get him back -- not only to save "Nightline" but to have a senior (no pun intended) correspondent who has interviewed acting Israel Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, for many years, and made it possible for "Nightline" viewers to regard Olmert as a familiar face.

The 28.24% Hassle …

Having just been awarded a 28.24% interest rate

From the credit card people who say they don't hassle

I wonder if they want to take food from my plate

And turn me into a Capital One vassal

JANUARY 8, 2006 --

Let It Be Known Department …

LPR had more than 81 thousand visits in 2005 and, early in the morning January 5th, eastern standard time, reached the ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND mark.

Thanks LPR clicksters and -- Keep the Federalist 57 Faith.

JANUARY 8, 2006 --

Just wondering …

...if the people who hated the late director Elia Kazan because he named names (to a congressional committee investigating communist influence in Hollywood) will express disgust with Jack Abramoff should he "name names" -- as part of a plea bargain. Please note: the offer of a lower sentence for giving information to prosecutors is not considered a bribe.

JANUARY 8, 2006 --

LPR regrets …

… the end of the 2nd Avenue delicatessen. At the southeast corner of Second Avenue and 10th Street, the deli was a couple of blocks from Village East Cinemas, home to the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival.

On occasion, while attending the NYIIFVF, LPR would go to the deli for a corned beef sandwich. LPR of course hopes that the deli will reopen at another location. Its corned beef sandwiches were too glorious to be left only to memory. Perhaps City Hal should give this kosher deli landmark -- official landmark status.

JANUARY 2, 2006 --

Thanks, Newt …

Newt Gingrich, appearing on Face the Nation, January 1, told moderator Bob Schieffer that the Republican party should be "the party of reform," and, among other things, end government of the insiders, by the insiders and for the insiders. He also suggested that Republicans could lose their congressional majorities if they are
seen as defending the indefensible. LPR, sharing these sentiments, wonders if Newt is one of LPR's Georgia clicksters. (Newt, how about commenting on 29.99% credit card interest rates?)

JANUARY 1, 2006 --

LPR offers the following as opening to a song with the "Truckin'..." title …

Rolling east on I-84

Thinkin' of a NASCAR with no door

Keeping its pedal on the floor

Just want to make that engine roar

"Truckin' on Interstate 84" with NASCAR sticker.

JANUARY 1, 2006 --

Championship Colors …

The Red Sox won in two thousand and four

The White Sox made it in twenty oh five

A name change to Blue Sox and nothing more

Might help another team's hopes come alive

JANUARY 1, 2006 --

February Football …

Super Bowl III --the Jets, led by quarterback Joe Namath, defeating the Baltimore Colts -- was held on January 12, 1969. This NFL season will conclude with a February Super Bowl.

When the NFL season reaches into March, it will, of course, give new meaning to the term "March Madness" -- presently applied to the NCAA Division I basketball tournament. (How soon until Major League Baseball extends the World Series into November?)

NOTE TO LPR CLICKSTERS:
If we don't speak out against economic bullying by Oil, Credit Cards, Municipalities, WHO WILL?
