Google Searches With an LPR Result

JANUARY 19, 2008 --

"Al Franken's publicist."

This Google search brought just one, yes -- one, result:  LPR.  (Sorry about that, Al)

"New Yankee stadium II pictures"

LPR is result no. 5 on this Google search.  The official Yankee website comes in tenth, here.  (Hey, Yankees, time to show LPR some respect.)

LPR Question of the Day …

What happens when economic predators (including of course the credit card companies) throttle the people?

Answer: The stock market plunges.

LPR Wonders …

… how long it will take for an economist to discover that predatory (the term is borrowed from Theodore Roosevelt) free enterprise lowers the purchasing power for the many to the aggrandizement of the few and, therefore, leads to recessions -- or worse?

LPR expects that the economist who makes this discovery will get a Nobel Prize.

Memo to Barack Obama …

When Senator Clinton chided you, at the January 21 debate, for not supporting a 30% cap on credit card interest, you might have replied that if she voted for a 30% cap, it must mean that she approves 30% interest -- and for you, that kind of interest is still usury and amounts to predatory free enterprise that is turning our economy into a "vast wasteland."

And you might have pointed out that 30 percent is punitive and, applying to the entire balance, in addition to a $39 late charge, gives the credit card companies windfall recovery over alleged late payments.

LPR continues to wonder: is there no candidate for president who stands with the people, as Federalist No. 57 counsels our leaders?

Memo to GE's Jeff Immelt …

LPR recently received a dunning call from GE.  The message did not identify the caller; it just gave a number to call.   LPR senses something is wrong when GE leaves messages without identifying itself.  By the way, please note that this writer has not made dunning calls to GE about the performance of the company's stock, a performance that is speeding this writer's fall from middle class.

free enterprise.

Predatory free enterprise
is bad for our
economic health.

Grilling is not the job of a congressman …

Warner Wolf, on the Don Imus program, January 7, urged congressman to "grill" baseball players on use of steroids.  Mr. Wolf indicated that grilling witnesses was the job of a congressional committee.  Seems to LPR that "grilling" is the stuff of a trial attorney cross-examining a witness.  LPR had thought that the purpose of congressional committees is legislation. LPR wouldn't even defend congressional grilling of credit card executives, although legislation putting teeth back in anti-usury laws would, LPR, believes, serve the common good.

Brief Suggestion to Disappointed Presidential Candidates …

You could always join the rest of us at the grass roots working to maintain government of, by and for the people.

Request for Clarification …

Rush Limbaugh, the day after the New Hampshire primary,  played actuality tape of some of Senator Clinton's remarks the day before her New Hampshire win. LPR caught this comment from the senator, as played by Limbaugh: "I see what's happening. We have to reverse it."

A New Year's Wish from LPR …

May we all  say, on January 1, 2009, "I am better off today than I was a year ago."

An LPR Exhortation …

LPR proposes formation of the Committee to Affirm the Populist Revival in America -- CAPRA.  The purpose of this committee is to spread the word of our populist heritage, as summed up by James Madison in Federalist Paper No. 57.  CAPRA could encourage formation of George Bailey clubs to combat the aggrandizing spirit harmful to the common good afflicting what Lou Dobbs, among others, calls "the forgotten middle class." LPR clicksters, don't be "inert" For the sake of our liberty, read Federalist No. 57 and tell others about it.
