LPR's
favorite recent "No Photos"
story …
Heading
to the Apple store, LPR snapped a photo of the multi-flumed fountain
outside the store's entrance. On leaving the store, LPR stopped for
another image, from a different view -- to be told photos could not
be taken from that spot and that LPR would have to move to the sidewalk
to take the photo. LPR indicated regret that it thought it was standing
on U.S. soil.

Herewith
the Imus Question: "What are they, nuts?" …
Newsstand
NYC price of the daily New York Times went to $1.25 Monday, July 15.
This price will NOT tempt LPR to jump at bargain subscription rate
offers. This price WILL persuade LPR to pass 'em by (just like it has
been doing with the Sunday paper recently).
BTW -- Anyone in medialand willing to tell us of the impact of the Imus cancellation
on: WFAN in the Morning; MSNBC; Meet the Press; Newsweek, et al.?

LPR
spotted these parking signs on the east side of 10th Avenue,
below 29th Street, the night of July 14. LPR believes an additional
sign should be posted: "Motorists are advised to obtain
legal counsel before parking at this location."

Twilight
Zone, Anyone? Or, George Noory, Please Take Note …
Just
before getting up, the morning of Bastille Day (July 14) I had a dream
suggesting that anyone who thinks of jumping in and leading police
in a rush to save a hostage -- forget it. You will be asked questions
and perhaps even face blame. Even if the hostage you knew about is
saved, a cop might be badly injured (or worse) and someone who knew
the rescued hostage won't thank you, but will ask about another person
who might also have been held hostage.
Also, the person asked about in this situation is named "Binkie," I
think.

Before
Bernanke Blabs, Sell Short?
There
was word, Sunday, that Fed Chair Bernanke will appear before congressional
panels, July 18 and 19 to express his concern about inflation. (As
noted elsewhere on this LPR posting -- what about the money supply,
Ben?) Can't Congress pass a law requiring Fed officials to keep their
views to themselves?

Questions for Fedhead Ben Bernanke …
Hey,
Chairman Bernanke, do you agree with the teaching of Milton Friedman
-- as LPR understands it -- that inflation is a function of the money
supply?
If so, why the constant … uh … interest in interest rates? If not,
should we demand the return of the Nobel Prize in Economics awarded to Professor
Friedman?

Why
Michael Is Not a Republican …
Consider
Bloomberg's vast amount of dough
In light of the observation in a "Fiddler" song
That "when you're rich they think you really know" ** --
Maybe his presidential candidacy can't (for him) go wrong
Republicans think consultants "really know"
And tend to fall for their hired lines
Leaving GOP candidates wallowing in woe
Bending, twisting, for lack of stiffer spines
** With thanks to Joseph Stein

Mayor
Bloomberg, What Do You Think?
Apparently,
the LPR piece on the visit of the International Olympics Committee
to New York City, February 2005 has drawn some recent notice. One article
discussed the city's snatch of the LPR-mobile with Shana inside. LPR
discounts the possibility, but allows the thought, that somehow the
IOC learned about the callous grab of Shana and concluded that a city
administration that could do this kind of thing should not be the site
of the Olympic games.
