Observations - June 2019

June 5, 2019 --

Hillary Clinton, at Hunger College, quoted in The New York Times, May 30, 2019:

"'We are witnessing an assault on the rule of law and the foundations of our democracy.'" LPR comment: Sounds like Ms. Clinton is projecting the radical mindset on her enemies.

From "the Resistance" ...

Former CIA Director John Brennan, quoted in Real Clear Politics, May 1, 2019:

"'... I’m still waiting for the Republicans to realize that the Trump ship is a sinking one. '" LPR comment: how devoutly Mr. Brennan wishes for impeachment -- to obscure his own misdeeds?

LPR calls on Congressional Republicans ...

...to rally round the president and note that there is no evidence that President Trump is guilty of a crime, nor of an impeachable offense, and that, quoting Prof Alan Dershowitz, in the Hill, May 30, Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III let "himself be used [by Democrats] for...partisan advantage.

Concerning Adam Schiff ...

Is it at all possible that House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff got elected to Congress because some voters thought they were voting for the "Adam Schiff" who was the New York district attorney on the tv series Law and Order? This "Schiff" was, of course, played by the marvelous Steven Hill who passed away in 2016 at the age of 94.

If the presidential election were held now...

...according to a Des Moines Register/CNN/Mediacom poll, Joe Biden would win the Iowa caucuses with 24% of the vote, compared to 16% for Senator Bernie Sanders, 15% for Senator Elizabeth Warren, 14% for Mayor Pete Buttigieg and 7% for Senator Kamala Harris. And according to a Quinnipiac national poll, President Trump would lose to all of these Democrats if the election were held now. Apparently, people were not asked: Do you think a presidential poll has any validity 17 months before the election? The first Democrat debates occur at the end of this month. LPR wonders if any of the Democrats will drop out by July 4 --2019, not 2020!

Another Reason to Impeach the President?

U.S. Park Police told The Washington Post, early this month, that President Trump plans to give a July 4th address at the Lincoln Memorial. Several Democrats sent a letter to the White House asking the president to reconsider. One of the signers House Democrat Leader Steny Hoyer, was said to have criticized the plan as "extremely alarming" for injecting politics "into a celebration of our nation's history." (And to borrow from Kyle Smith in the New York Post, June 9--if the president said he liked people, would his critics accuse him of cannibalism?)

Jared Kushner Meets Ukraine President Zelensky

The Financial Times reported that when Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky was in Brussels early this month, he met with President Trump senior adviser (and son-in-law) Jared Kushner, along with officials from the European Union and NATO. The report did not disclose the subject of the meeting, but did say that Mr. Zelensky also met with U.S. Energy Secretary Rick Perry.
