As for Mayor deBlasio ...

... LPR has, as yet, no reason to change its view that he will be rescued from his mayoral post by President Obama. Indeed, after only two months in office, polls suggest that Mr. deBlasio is on course to be the most disliked mayor in New York City history.

LPR Seeks Information from Clicksters

Commentary magazine, March issue, published several letters responding to an article in the December 2013 issue by Michael Medved and John Podhoretz on the civil war among Republicans. The letters were critical of the article. One of the letters (edited without ellipsis) was from this writer, who was accused by Medved and Podhoretz of falsely accusing the Republican establishment for not backing the candidacies of Ken Cucinelli for governor of Virgina and Steve Lonegan for U.S. senator from New Jersey. This writer believes the Medved/Podhoretz accusation is itself false. If anyone can point to significant backing for these candidates from the GOP establishment, please contact LPR.

Too Poor to Practice Law in New York State ...

This writer heard, third-hand, of his suspension from the practice of law in New York state. The reason: nonpayment of the biennial attorney registration fee that goes, in part, to a fund for clients cheated or defrauded by their laywers. This writer has not had clients for several years, but had continued to perform pro bono service as an arbitrator in small claims court and also on attorney-client fee dispute panels. At no time did this writer have the opportunity to appear in person to ask to be permitted to continue his pro bono service. Apparently, the judicial authorities in New York State want to avoid having to face lawyers who are poor -- which is not the same thing as a poor lawyer; probably far easier to to hand down callous suspensions. The conclusion, borrowing from a recent comment from New York Governor Andrew Cuomo: There is no place for a poor person as a lawyer ion the State of New York.
