SEPTEMBER 18, 2007 --
Confrontation …
LPR was the only camera on hand, outside the Yankee
Stadium press gate, September 5 when, after the
Yankees beat Seattle, fighting broke out nearby. The
clash was not between Yankee and Seattle fans, but
between fans of unknown team loyalty and security
personnel. NYPD
officers acted quickly to contain the situation.

Stop Lethal Injection Executions!
The tragedy of Terri Schiavo got renewed attention
recently when GOP presidential candidate Fred
Thompson was asked to comment on it.
LPR recalls, among other things, that Terri Schiavo
died by means of denial of nourishment (DON). LPR
further recalls that the pro-death- for-Terri-Schiavo
advocates assured us that DON resulted in peaceful
termination of life.
Their view was persuasive.
Accordingly, LPR believes we must end the practice
of execution by lethal injection. Clearly, convicted
murderers facing death sentences should, instead, be
done in by DON. |

An Alternative Minimum Tack …
The Bush Administration is seen, now, as fresh starting
With Rove, Gonzales and who knows who else* departing
Does anyone doubt Democrats would have them remain
So long as it were W who left the White House terrain?
*Excluded from this satire is White House press secretary Tony Snow who is leaving the administration September 14. Tony has been battling cancer, valiantly. LPR joins those asking the Almighty to grant Tony a speedy and complete recovery.

LPR thanks …
… The Wall Street Journal for citing The Federalist Papers in exhorting the Bush Administration to stand fast against his political adversaries.
(More on this, next LPR.)

Caveat Voter …
New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd, with insightful
nod
Suggested, once, that Rudy and Hillary were like peas
in a pod
Consider, too, that each is spurred on by a sense of
entitlement
Consistent with democracy -- or election cause
voters will quite lament?

Just wondering …
… if, somehow, the spirit of Babe Ruth is not pleased with the crumbling condition of Babe Ruth Plaza, on
161st Street, between Yankee Stadium and its successor -- and let its displeasure be known by causing the Yankees to lose to Tampa Bay after beating the Red Sox.
